Obituary for Dorothy H. Lynch - Schwartz

DOROTHY SCHWARTZ Dorothy Hazel Schwartz, 92, longtime resident of Atlantic, Iowa passed away at Allen House in Atlantic on Tuesday, February 10, 2009. Dorothy Hazel and her twin sister Doris Helen were born November 7, 1916 to Ruth and William Anker in Atlantic. Dorothy attended public schools in Atlantic and graduated with the Atlantic High School Class of 1935. On October 24, 1937 she married Archie Dale Lynch. To this union three daughters were born, Charlotte Kay, Carol Sue and Garnet Ruth. Archie was drafted into the service during World War II, and was killed in action in France on their seventh wedding anniversary, October 24, 1944. She later married Gus Schwartz, who also preceded her in death in 1979. When her girls were young, Dorothy taught Sunday School and was a Brownie leader. Later she entered the work force and worked for the Jeanne Christensen Insurance Company, Drs. Juel and Wilcox and Dr. James Van Antwerp until she retired. Upon her retirement in 1979, she immediately became more active in church work and joined the Atlantic Care Center Auxiliary and was an active volunteer until she was past 92 years of age. She was a 60 year member of the Rebekah Lodge and was active in United Methodist Women and Esther Circle. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting and designing her own greeting cards. She is survived by her three daughters, Garnet (Lynch) Kelly of Loveland, CO, Charlotte (Lynch) Madsen of Corning, AR, and Carol (Lynch) Rork of Britt, IA; eight grandchildren, Joel and Casey Madsen, Dale Elaine Simmons, Kelly Ann Morse, Rodney and Darin Rork and Clint and Patrick Kelly. She enjoyed twelve great grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren; her twin sister Doris Cole of Hemet, CA; nephew John Holmes and wife Becky of Atlantic; nephew John Cole and nieces Kathie Freeman and Beckie Garrett. She is preceded in death by her parents and two husbands, a grand daughter Amy Rork De Geus, and sisters, Mildred Nelson and Marian Holmes.Funeral InformationThere will be open visitation until family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, Feb. 13 at Roland Funeral Home. A private family committal service, in honor of Dorothy, will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 14 in the Atlantic Cemetery. Her funeral will follow at 10:30 A.M., on Saturday, at First United Methodist Church in Atlantic.
