Obituary for
Dr. Dale D. Schramm
Dr. Dale D. Schramm, 81, of Atlantic, Iowa passed away Friday, May 27, 2016, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
The son of Frederick Henry and Ivanetta Adelheid Marie Dankers Schramm, Dale Dorance Schramm was born August 16, 1934, at home near Newell, Iowa. Dale graduated from Lytton High School and later received his Doctorate from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He met Lois Lewis at a church league softball game and later, they married on September 4, 1955, in Pomeroy, Iowa.
Dale entered the United States Army in 1956 and was stationed in Germany, where their first daughter, Kim, was born. Returning to civilian life, they took up farming in southeast Minnesota from 1959-1970. In 1969, he was the State Champion at the Minnesota Tractor Pull. He later became a Chiropractor and established his practice in Atlantic in 1974. He and Lois served the Atlantic area together until retiring in 2006. They delighted to see both their daughters through Palmer College, as well.
With his roots in farming, Dr. Schramm was a natural as a chiropractor and working with his hands. They were known as healing hands by his many patients from Atlantic and the surrounding area. He had a sensitive, caring touch and gentle manner. With a great sense of humor, he loved hearing and sharing jokes with his patients. He developed close friendship bonds with many of them who sought his care consistently, year after year. He and Lois worked long hours, even as they aged into their 60's and 70's, starting early in the morning and staying late, like any good farmer would. He was also a teacher at heart and loved to share new insight with his patients about health and wellness. He will be missed, but also remembered for touching many lives, both physically and spiritually.
Dr. Schramm was a member of the Wiota Methodist Church and served many positions there and sang in the choir. He and Lois headed up the church missions for many years and especially oversaw the PET Project (Personal Energy Transportation). He has been a Master Gardener, a 4-H Sponsor and active with Health Awards at the Cass County Fair, and formerly a member of the Gideon's.
Traveling had been a special joy to both he and Lois. They saw all of the Domestic States except Maine and went to Hawaii twice. International friendships led to international travels; they stayed with friends in Australia and New Zealand and enjoyed trips to Europe and many Caribbean Islands. They have wintered in Bradenton, Florida since 1989. A man of many talents, he pursued flight lessons and soloed. He and Lois taught ballroom dancing together for many years.
Dr. Schramm's family includes, his wife, Lois; two daughters, Kim Schramm of Greenfield, IA and Darci (Keith) Mull of Naples, FL; one granddaughter, Brittni Katro of Jacksonville, FL; five brothers, Winferd (Arnelda) Schramm of Battle Creek, IA, Hilbert (Corrine) of Amarillo, TX, Lenus of Pocahontas, IA, Ralph (Barbara) of Ankeny, IA and Leon (Marilyn) of Pomeroy, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
