Fern Schlake

, 76, of Atlantic, passed away Friday, June 19, 2015, at the University Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
The daughter of Frank and Agnes (Kirch) Schmoldt, she was born July 24, 1938, in Beemer, Nebraska. Fern was baptized at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Beemer and later confirmed on April 6, 1952. She attended Beemer Community Schools graduating in the Class of 1957.
On October 25, 1957, she was united in marriage to Henry F. Schlake at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Beemer. Two sons, Kevin and Kelly were born to this union. She was employed with Campbell Soup in Fremont, Nebraska for a short time, but in 1969 they made Atlantic home. Fern worked for Publisher's News for several years, and recently worked for A Plus Design, both in Atlantic. She had just retired from A Plus Design three weeks ago.
Fern was a very dedicated member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, where she was a member of the ladies circle. She enjoyed oil painting, gardening, taking trips to the casino, and recently loved spending time on the computer.
Fern is survived by her sons, Kevin (fiancée, Vicki O'Brien) Schlake and Kelly (Carol) Schlake, all of Atlantic; grandchildren, Shelly Schlake of Atlantic, IA, Jeremy (Chelle) Schlake of San Angelo, TX, Justin (Mindy) Schlake of Sioux City, IA, Sheena (J.R.) Hagen of Atlantic, IA, Sharla Schlake (fiancé, Tom Schmeling) of Ankeny, IA, Jacob (Amber) Schlake of Atlantic, IA, and Kira Henley of Atlantic, IA; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Lorvy Schmoldt of Fremont, NE; sister, Dorothy Dobberstein of Topeka, KS; sister-in-law, Jane Schlake of Olivehurst, CA; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry F. Schlake; her parents, Frank and Agnes Schmoldt; brother, Burton Schmoldt; brothers and sister-in-law, Carl Schlake, Bernadine Schmoldt, and Wilbur Schlake; and nephew, Bruce Tomrdle.
