Frederick "Fred" Scherdin
Frederick "Fred" B. Sherdin, 61, lifetime resident of Atlantic, Iowa passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013, at The Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Fred was born in Atlantic, Iowa, on January 27, 1951, to Raymond E. and Marjorie (Quick) Scherdin. He grew up and attended school in his hometown of Atlantic, where he was employed as a road construction worker, in addition to investing time in the exploration of oil.
The history of WWII was always a subject of interest to Fred as he enjoyed studying its many details which were associated with his love for reading. Listening to rock & roll music was also one of his favorite past times.
Frederick is survived by one brother; Gary Scherdin, and one sister; Barbara Vanderburg, both of Atlantic.
Preceding him in death were his parents; as well as one sister; Marjorie Darnsted.
A Family Meeting with Friends Visitation will take place on Monday evening from 5:00 – 6:00 PM at the Roland Funeral Home where Fred’s funeral service will also be held Tuesday morning January 22, at 10:00 AM. Pastor Holly Smith of First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic will preside. Fred’s committal service will be in the Atlantic Cemetery following the funeral.
Open Visitation will be available Monday, January 21 from 8:00 AM until family will be meeting with friends at 5:00 PM. There will be a fellowship reception at The Atlantic Eagles Club following the committal service.
