Margaret Saunders

Margaret Ann Saunders, 87, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Glenwood, passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Monday, November 17, 2008.Margaret was born to Edward and Katherine (McDonald) Colgan on June 25, 1921 in Mills County near Pacific Junction, Iowa and graduated from Glenwood High School. She received her nurses training at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa and became a surgical nurse there. On May 1, 1975, Margaret was united in marriage to John Saunders in Council Bluffs. Following their marriage they lived in Council Bluffs until 1978 when they moved to Cedar Rapids and have continued to live there. Margaret volunteered at the Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids for a number of years. She was a good nurse and loved to help people. She was excellent at her work and enjoyed making people feel better. Margaret also cared for her aged mother.She is survived by her husband John Saunders of Cedar Rapids, IA and a brother-in-law Joseph Saunders of Vista, CA and several nieces and nephews.Margaret is preceded in death by her parents and a brother Edward Colgan at the age of eleven.Funeral InformationServices for Margaret will be held Friday, November 21, at 10:00 AM at the St. Timothy Catholic Church south of Cumberland with Father Dean Nimerichter officiating. There will be an open visitation at the Roland Funeral Home with a rosary Thursday evening, November 20, at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Reno Catholic Cemetery south of Cumberland. Roland Funeral Service in Atlantic, Iowa is caring for the arrangements.
