BETTY SANNY
Betty Marcille Sanny, 93, of Lewis and Griswold, Iowa, passed away at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa, on Thursday, March 8, 2012.
Betty Marcille was born the daughter of Alex and Ida May (Schmidt) McGaffin on October 12, 1918, north of Wiota, Iowa. She graduated with the Lewis High School Class of 1936. Betty was wed to J. Henry “Hank” Sanny on October 8, 1936. The couple farmed in the Lewis area until 1965 when they moved into Lewis. Betty worked in the Lewis Post Office, was a member of the United Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis, was a past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, and past Rainbow Mother Advisor of the Griswold Assembly. Her family and friends will remember Betty as a delightful tour guide at the Hitchcock House. She was especially knowledgeable in the area of restoration of the Nishnabotna Ferry Boat House.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Mable Anderson of Lewis, Betty Jane (Duane) Anderson of Lewis; Judy (Gary) Ireland of Iowa Falls and her son, Rick Sanny of Lewis; 18 grandchildren: Jean (Donnie) Cohrs, Chuck (Diane) Anderson, Teri Leighton, Lauri (Lee) Wyman, Sheri (Mark) Walter, Scott (Jan) Anderson, Tammy Orstad and special friend, Pete Euans, Kim (Greg) Palmer, Paul Cavin (Tami), Dawn (Paul) Reed, Tina Cavin (Tom), Marcie (Troy) Meyer, Deanna (Kurtis) Krause, Carrie (Jason) Deal, Christian Sanny, Shane (Mar'Quita) Sanny, Zeb (Sara) Sanny, and Teresa Erickson; 46 great grandchildren and 14 great great-grandchildren; her sister Bernice Burnside of Atlantic; three sisters-in-law, Sharlene Sanny of Atlantic, Dorothy Sanny of White Bear Lake, MN and Colleen Sanny of Fremont, NE; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hank; her daughter, Joyce Cavin and her husband, Stuart; her grandsons, Jeffery Anderson and Todd Anderson; great granddaughters, Jessica Wyman and Melissa Anderson; and her sisters, Beulah Marshall and Belva Smiley.
There will be Open Visitation from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM Friday, 8 AM to 12:00 Saturday, 1:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday, and 8 AM to 5 PM on Monday. The family will meet with relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday evening, March 12. Betty’s funeral service will be held 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 13, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic with Pastor Nadine Aydt, of the United Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis, officiating. The committal service will follow in Oakwood Cemetery at Lewis. A lunch will be served at the Lewis Community Center following services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated for the United Congregational Methodist Church and the Lewis Library.
