Sandra (Schoenbohm) Bowers

Sandra (Schoenbohm) Bowers, 83, of Wichita, Kansas, formerly of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 5, 2026, at her home in Wichita.

Sandra Kathleen was born on January 25, 1942, at home in Cass County, Iowa, the daughter of Gilbert Harold and Helen Lorraine (Spies) Schoenbohm. She grew up on a farm near Cumberland and graduated from C & M High School in the Class of 1960. Following graduation, she took accounting courses and worked in that field for various employers through the years, retiring from Farm Credit Bank.

In 1961, she was united in marriage to Dave Bowers. The couple was married for 27 years and blessed with three children, Russell, Melisa and Kurt. While the kids were in school, she volunteered to help for school and extra-circular activities.

Sandra’s hobbies included gardening, often times barefoot as she was most of the time, and making crafts. She made delicious meals and candies at Christmas. She looked forward to spending time with her grandkids and playing BINGO and cards.

Sandra’s welcoming, warm smile and caring heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her and she was known to many as “Mom”. She is survived by her daughter, Melisa (Mike) Shetlar; son, Kurt (Angi) Bowers; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Nedra (Delbert) Elmquist; brother, Harold Schoenbohm; and nieces, nephews and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Helen Schoenbohm; son, Russell Bowers; brother, Denny Schoenbohm; sister-in-law, Mary Schoenbohm; and brother-in-law, Arnold Edwards.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 10th at the First Lutheran Church, south of Wiota, with Pastor Mike Bodkins officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery. The family invites you to join them for a meal and fellowship following services at the cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
