Obituary for Venice Sandquist

Venice Campbell Sandquist, 83 of Boulder, Colorado died Friday, July 2, 2004. She was born June 21, 1921 in Villisca, Iowa to Thomas Kay Wheeler and Myrtle Estelle Wheeler. She graduated from Villisca High School and later married Howard Campbell in 1939. They moved to Atlantic, Iowa where they raised three daughters, Holly, Colene and Rita. Howard Campbell died in 1967. She later married Ray Collen and then Dean Sandquist both of whom preceded her in death. Two daughters, Holly Kelly and Rita Campbell, her parents and four siblings, also preceded her in death. Surviving family include her daughter, Colene Van Winkle of Boulder, Colorado, a sister, Vona Fryrear of Arizona, five grandchildren, Brett Hanke, Gina Kelly, Johnna Harvel, Molly and Judd Priebe, and five great grandchildren, Josh, Jason and Jeremy Harvel and Sasha and Austin Dowd. Venice worked for many years as a bookkeeper in both Atlantic and in Denver, Colorado. She was known for her great smile and sense of humor, which remained until the end of her life. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004 at the Atlantic Iowa Cemetery with a processional beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Roland Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will immediately follow the services in a private room at the Family Table of Atlantic restaurant located at 609 W. 7th in Atlantic. Gifts in Venice"s name may be made to the Bethphage Foundation, a supporting foundation established to raise, manage and distribute charitable gifts for service recipients with Developmental Disabilities.
