Mary Lou Sandhorst
Mary Lucile Sandhorst Mary (Lou) Lucile Sandhorst of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital at the age of 89. Mary Lou was born to Gus Ricklefs and Bridget (Hogan) Ricklefs on February 21, 1921 in Monticello, Iowa. She attended school at Monticello Catholic and graduated from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. On June 22, 1950, Mary Lou was married to Charles Raymond Sandhorst in Monticello, Iowa. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the church organist for 48 years at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and was also their choir director. Mary Lou enjoyed music, giving piano lessons, reading, bridge clubs and volunteering at the Cass County Memorial Hospital and numerous organizations in Atlantic. Her survivors include her husband, Charles, of Atlantic; daughters, Ann Sandhorst and husband Robert Lederman and Kathy Rumery and husband Jerry; son Tom Sandhorst and wife Connie; grandchildren, Matthew Lederman, Jon and Jeff Rumery, Jennifer Kerber and husband Zach. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Bridget Ricklefs.Funeral Information There will be an open visitation at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic on Tuesday, October 12, from 8:00am until 6:00pm. A rosary for Mary Lou will be held at 6:00pm with a family visitation following from 6:30 â 8:00pm. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 13, at 10:30am at the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic with Father Dan Siepker officiating. Interment will be in the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Atlantic. The family is requesting memorials be given to Camp Courageous and the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church education fund.
