Obituary for William Dale Rourick

William Dale Rourick, 85, life-long resident of Cass County, passed away on Sunday, May 02, 2010 at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa. Dale was born the son of William and Greta (Husmann) Rourick on June 13, 1924 south of Brayton, Iowa. He grew up in Cass County, attending country schools, and graduating from Anita High School in 1942. Dale was united in marriage to Donna Rae Taylor on September 5, 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wiota, Iowa. They were blessed with a family of two sons and four daughters. They farmed south of Wiota, retiring to Atlantic in 1988. Dale was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, serving as a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council chair, Church trustee and Cemetery Sexton for the Atlantic and Wiota Catholic cemeteries. He was an active community volunteer. He enjoyed serving on the Cass County Fair Board, Farm Bureau Board and Cass County Extension Council. He worked at the Food Pantry, delivered Meals on Wheels and participated in the Lions Club. Dale was a hard-working man, rooted to the land. He cherished his family, his faith and his friends. His years were filled with laughter and joy. In his retirement his favorite social outing was his Farmer's Kitchen Coffee Club. Thankful for sharing his life are his wife Donna; son, Dan (wife Marie and daughter Taylor) Rourick of Wiota; four daughters, Diane Rourick-Hamczyk of Woodridge, NY; Deb (husband Sam and sons Ben and Bill) Hunt of Mason City; Kathy (husband Steve and children Andy and Ali) Gus of Boone; Lynette (husband Dan, children Alex and Emily) Yager of Atlantic; brothers, Leo (Evelyn) Rourick of Crescent City, CA and Rex (Keo) Rourick of Kansas City, MO. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law; son Bradley in 1960, son-in-law Adam Hamczyk; sister Doris Langerak and sister-in-law Janice Schellengberg. Funeral InformationThere will be open visitation from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily, until the family will meet with relatives and friends for a Rosary to be held at Roland Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at 6:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 1010. Memorials may be made for a mass, the Food Pantry or Meals on Wheels. Roland Funeral Service of Atlantic, Iowa is caring for Dale's family and the arrangements.
