Obituary for Dorothy Rosetta Rorabaugh

Dorothy Rosetta (Sims) Rorabaugh Dorothy Rosetta (Sims) Rorabaugh of Atlantic, IA and formerly of Corning, IA, went to be with her Lord early Wednesday morning, December 31, 2008, at the age of 91, at Heritage House. Dorothy was born February 14, 1917 to Wilmer and Bessie (Bowman) Sims in Smith Center, Kansas. She attended school there and graduated from Smith Center High School then continued her education in Hays, Kansas to get her teaching degree. Dorothy taught in the Smith County rural school system for three years and during this time she married her high school sweetheart, Paul Collier Rorabaugh, on June 1, 1937 in Smith Center. After marriage, they farmed in the Smith Center area until moving to Walnut, Iowa in 1944. In 1954 they moved to a farm outside Corning, Iowa and remained there until 1963 when they build a new home in town. In 1999 they moved to Heritage House. Dorothy loved to travel and after working at Hy-Vee a few years, she decided to start a travel agency in Corning. She made travel arrangements for the NFO when they were in town and then started escorting her own bus tours which she named the Now or Never Tours. In her years of touring, she visited every state in the union at least once and escorted many tours to Hawaii and Alaska where she tried her hand driving a dog sled. Dorothy was a loving mom, grandmother and a special friend to those who knew her. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by one daughter, Sharol Andersen and husband Jerry of Atlantic; two sons, Curtis Rorabaugh and wife Melissa of Colorado Springs, CO and Richard Rorabaugh and wife Geri of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, David Andersen and wife Lynne and children Jon and Rachel of Gilbert, IA, Scott Andersen and wife Melissa of Shawnee, KS and children, Jamie Lozada of Shreveport, LA, Lauren Reyes and husband, Ariel, of Bossier City, LA, Erin Norwood of Atlanta, GA, Zach, Andrew and Austin Andersen of Shawnee, KS, Jennifer Cappel and husband Doug and children Maddie and Alex of West Des Moines, IA, Marc Andersen and wife Melissa and daughters, Megan and Meredith of Blaine, MN and Ben and Nick Rorabaugh of Lincoln, NE; five great great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Doris Sims of Smith Center, KS and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Paul in 2003; her parents; a brother Delbert; a sister Goldie and husband John.Funeral InformationServices for Dorothy will be held at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. with Duane Brown of Atlantic officiating. There will be an open visitation with interment in the Atlantic Cemetery. The Roland Funeral Home is caring for Dorothy's family and her arrangements.
