Boyd F. Roland
Boyd Francis Roland, a long time resident of Atlantic, passed away at his home early Monday morning December 18, 2006 at the age of 63.Boyd Roland, son of Francis and Irene (McKay) Roland was born September 18, 1943 in Creston, Iowa. He spent his childhood on a farm in Adams County. He graduated from the Corning High School in Corning, Iowa in 1961. He went to Chicago and flew for Commuter Airlines then worked for Western Electric. He later attended Iowa Western Community College and received his airframe and power plant certifications in 1978. Boyd was a founding father of the Iowa State Reserve Law Officers Association from 1973 â 1996. He worked in the aviation field and spent several years as a FBO operator of the Red Oak airport then he returned to Iowa Western as an instructor. After his retirement from aviation, he worked for Eaton Corp in Shenandoah. Boyd loved to plan family reunions every two years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and he loved to hunt, fish and tinker in his shop that he built. Boyd was enjoying having his '38" Chevy restored to its original condition and he had purchased a motor home for trips he and Peggy were going to take after their retirement.He is survived by his wife, Peggy of Atlantic; his mother, Irene Roland of Corning; his daughter, Darci RaNae Young of Atlantic; his son, Boyd Clinton Roland and his fiancee, Karmen Renner of Atlantic; his brother, Chuck Roland and wife, Coral of Ankeny, IA; his brother-in-law, Brian Miller and wife, Bert of Clarion, IA; six grandchildren, Travis S. Young, Breanna Lynn Roland, Derek Boyd Roland, Bailey Olivia Roland, Nickolas Wayne Renner, Eric Richard Renner; an aunt, Eleanor Harrison of Corning; many cousins and several nieces and nephews.Boyd is preceded in death by his father Francis Potter Roland; his father-in-law, Albert James Miller and his mother-in-law, Hazel Mildred Miller.Services for Boyd will be held Wednesday, December 20, at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic at 2:00P.M. Pastor Gary DeGeest of the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic will officiate.
