ORRIS B. ROGERS Orris B. Rogers, age 84, of Atlantic, Iowa and formerly of Walnut, Iowa, passed away Tuesday morning, October 13, 2009, at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa. Orris was born the son of Samuel Toby and Vina (Gress) Rogers on August 29, 1925. He grew up in East Pottawattamie County attending school in Hancock and then in Atlantic where he graduated in 1943. He was on one of the first basketball teams in Atlantic that went to state tournament. He farmed all of his life mostly in East Pottawattamie County. He was united in marriage to Patricia Brown on December 28, 1945. His family will remember him for his inquisitive nature, generosity and loving, caring ways. Surviving Orris is a daughter, Connie and husband Mark Schaberg of Roanoke, Virginia and a son Scott and wife Pat Rogers of Parker, Colorado; two grandchildren, Todd Schaberg and wife Laurie of Leesburg, Virginia and Kirk Schaberg and wife Stacy of Nazareth, Pennsylvania; four great grandchildren, Torie, Ashely, Hailey and Kaylee; one brother, Gress Rogers of Ames, Iowa; three nieces, Sara Kay, Debbie and Vicki and one nephew, Doug. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Patty in 2007.Funeral Information There will be an open viewing of Orris at the Roland Funeral Home daily from 8 - 5 with a family visitation on Sunday evening from 5 - 7:00 pm. A private burial service will be held Monday morning, October 19, at 10:30 at the Atlantic Cemetery with a memorial service following at 11:30 at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic.
