Roger Mehlmann, 84, of Papillion, Nebraska, and a 1958 graduate of Atlantic High School, died Monday, March 31, 2025, at Hillcrest Country Estate Cottages Skilled Nursing Home in Papillion.
Roger Lee was born on August 6, 1940, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Henry Carl and Vera Virginia (Ruch) Mehlmann. He grew up in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School in the Class of 1958.
On November 12, 1971, he was united in marriage to Karen Ann Hartman at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Council Bluffs. Roger and Karen went on many traveling adventures. Some of their favorites being cruises to Alaska and Hawaii and bus tours to the Pacific Northwest and New York. They also looked forward to the occasional trip to the casino.
Roger worked at SWIFT Packing Plant, and later the Federal Reserve Bank, retiring after nearly 30 years.
Roger was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, and any talk of Nebraska got him all worked up! He collected beer steins and AVON bottles. Roger enjoyed watching movies and he preferred more reality type TV shows, Dancing with the Stars and Survivor being his favorites. He was one to enter any sweepstakes that came in the mail and even though he never one big he did win some smaller things through the years. Roger and Karen’s generous hearts donated to many causes, but the one they had a passion for was supporting rescue animals. While living at Hillcrest there was no question as to if he would be at BINGO, he loved it! Roger loved to kid around and tease, especially with his nieces and nephews.
Roger is survived by brothers-in-law, Kevin Hartman and Kris (Gabriele) Hartman, all of Council Bluffs, IA; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karen Mehlmann; sister-in-law, Lori Hartman; and beloved rescue dogs, Rollo and Kia.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 8th at the Atlantic Cemetery.
Roland Funeral Service is caring for Roger's family and his arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.
