Roger Denison

Roger Lee Denison, 74, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away on December 5, 2021, peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

He was born to Dale and Mary Jean (Reeves) Denison on December 22, 1946, and spent his younger years living on a farm in Anita. After graduating from Atlantic High School in 1965, he enlisted into the Iowa Army National Guard during the Vietnam era, earning several honors, one being a sharp shooter. He was later transferred to Motor Pool division and was honorably discharged with a rank of SGT. E5.

On January 17, 1969, he married Donna Westover of Grant, and together they had two children, Kevin and Kerri.

Roger had several jobs as a young man, but his identity is most tied to his love of mechanics and owning his own businesses since 1975. With these businesses he employed family and many others over the years. His customers became lifelong friends and meant so much to him. His knowledge of mechanics was very valuable to truckers and farmers who relied on him to figure out a problem and get them back on the road. Roger never retired; he was still working from home at the end of his illness with heart failure. He continued to take calls from customers and order parts. He was known for being quite the prankster and loved scaring people using different props, his favorite being an iguana.

Roger loved watching NASCAR races with Dale Earnhardt being his favorite racer. In the 80's he owned a stock car and Saturday nights in Corning was his thrill. He loved to travel and took his kids and grandkids on many very memorable vacations over the years. Papa Roger was very special to his grandkids and he loved them deeply.

Roger will not only be missed by his family, but the friends he has made over the years that also became his family at heart.

Roger is survived by his wife, Donna Denison of Atlantic; son, Kevin Denison of Atlantic; daughter, Kerri Denison and fiancé, Rex Luke of Anita; grandchildren, Chrystal (Mark) Parsley, Spenser Denison, Tyler and Josie Molina, Maria, Maggie, and Sophie Pettinger; great-grandchildren, Elsie, Emmie and Marlee Parsley and Adalae Denison; and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Donald Denison, Ronald Denison, and Rodney Denison.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Cass County Community Center in Atlantic. Following the visitation, cremation will take place.

Memorials are preferred to the family for a later designation.
