Roberta "Bobbie" Putney

Roberta “Bobbie” Putney, 101, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Allen Place in Atlantic.

Roberta Josephine was born on September 17, 1924, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of William Carl and Nellie Helen (Dickinson) Jones. She attended school in Atlantic until moving at the age of 17 to Seattle, Washington, where she would graduate high school.

Bobbie was united in marriage to Samuel McConoughey and they were blessed with daughter, Diana Lynn. She later married Robert Williams and William Putney.

Bobbie worked at Omaha National Bank in the Loan Department for 22 years. She lived various places through the years including Alaska, California and Arizona. Bobbie returned to the Atlantic area in 2018, and was the first resident of The Whitney apartments and lived there until moving to Allen Place.

She loved to travel! In recent years, she enjoyed doing crosswords, saying it helped her maintain her excellent memory and crocheting.

Bobbie is survived by Diana’s sons and their families; cousin, Becky Riley; and many extended family.

She is preceded in death by her husbands and daughter, Diana Decatur.

A reception to honor Bobbie’s life and share memories will be held from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., Friday, January 30th, in the community room at The Whitney, 222 Chestnut Street in Atlantic.
