Bob would be the first to say he’d failed God many times.   He would want you to know God is always there with outstretched arms and urging to try again.

Robert “Bob” Lyle Sothman, 92, Christian, son, brother, husband, and Dad, of Atlantic, went home to be with his Savior on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Heritage House in Atlantic.  Bob, son of Hans D. and Hilda Sothman, was born August 15, 1931, at the old Jones Hospital, Atlantic.

Bob attended Pringey country school through eighth grade and graduated from Atlantic High School with the class of 1949.   In 1952-54, during the Korean conflict, he served in the armed services.  Upon his discharge, Bob returned to his home in the Lyman area and continued farming along with his Dad and brothers.  Insurance sales, insurance adjusting and livestock delivery were ways Bob served others until his retirement in 1996.

In 1993, Bob and Mary Ann Worthington Lindeman were married at the Atlantic Gospel Chapel.  They moved to the Dogwood Hills area in southern Missouri.  The enjoyment of raising a variety of animals, especially fainting goats, sharing many hours of music at nursing homes and church fill his retirement in Missouri.  In 2015, retirement changed from enjoying the animals and music to time in the garden and workshop on 10th Street in Atlantic.  Bob’s retirement address changes were not known ahead of time, there is one change that Bob knew ahead of it happening.  That is the address where he is spending forever and ever.   That is heaven with the Lord, his Savior.  Bob was certain of that in 1950 when he accepted the Lord as his Savior.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Worthington Lindeman) Sothman; son, Tracy (Stacey) Sothman, nine stepchildren and spouses; twenty-eight grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and special friend Larry Mitchell.

Loved ones preceding Bob in death include his parents, Hans and Hilda Sothman; wife, Caia; son, Kyle; four brothers and spouses; two sisters and spouses; two step-daughters; two grandsons; and one great grandson.

One of his favorite promises is found in a song written by Bill and Gloria Gather.  It reads, “Look for me, I’d like to hear it too.  I realize when you arrive, there’ll be so much to view.   After you’ve been there ten thousand years, a million, maybe two.  Look for me, for I will be there too.”

Visitation with family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 19th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.  Burial will take place Monday, May 20, 2 p.m., at the Dysart Cemetery in Dysart, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.
