Obituary for Shirley Ann Reeves

SHIRLEY ANN FOREMAN - NEWLON - REEVES Shirley Ann Reeves, 71, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at her daughter, Sheryl Black"s home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Shirley Ann Foreman was born the daughter of James W. and Elizabeth (Richards) Foreman on March 15, 1936 in Red Oak, Iowa. She grew up attending school in Red Oak and finished her schooling in Atlantic. She was first married to Billy G. Newlon Sr. in 1951. They divorced in 1955. Shirley was married to Gail Morrison Reeves in Atlantic, Iowa on July 18, 1956 in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple lived in Atlantic where they raised their family of three children. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She and Gail started the Eagles Club in Atlantic. Theirs, was the first of charter membership, # 3763. Eagles was "their life&" until 1988 when Gail suffered a short illness before he passed away that year. Friends will remember her smiling face and helpfulness at Safeway Grocery Store in Atlantic and at Delongs Sportswear. She retired in 1999 and lived her remaining years in Nodaway, IA and Fremont, NE. She is survived by her daughters, Jane Berge and husband Fred of Atlantic, IA and Sheryl Black of Council Bluffs, IA; a son Billy G. Newlon and wife Denise of Fremont, NE; grandchildren, Kandy Betances of Harlan, IA, Donna Gehling of Atlantic, IA and Tina Keasey of Atlantic, IA, Spencer and Shelby Black of Council Bluffs, IA; great grandchildren, Bryce, Kyle and Michael Gehling of Atlantic and Kevin Keasey II of Atlantic; her sisters, Mary Clayton of Creston, IA, Rosalie Baker and husband Jack of Davenport, IA, June Henderson and husband Gary of Fremont and Patricia Rush of Mead, NE and brother James F. Foreman and wife Margaret of Hooper, NE. She is preceded in death by her husband Gail; her brother Herman Foreman; her sister Christina Kammerer of Nodaway, IA; and her mother and father.Funeral InformationThere will be an open visitation, where friends may sign Shirley"s guest book at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa on Saturday, March 15 at 11:00AM. Warren Roland from the Roland Funeral Home will officiate. The family will meet with relatives and friends for a gathering at the Eagles Lodge in Red Oak following the committal service.
