Marie Beck Rattenborg
Marie Beck Rattenborg, 94, of Longmont, Colorado and formerly of Atlantic, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Life Care Center in Longmont, Colorado.Marie, the daughter of Jesse H. and Mary C. (Burris) Beck, was born January 12, 1907 in Stuart, Iowa. Her family moved to Atlantic in 1908 where she grew up and graduated from Atlantic High School with the class of 1925. Her marriage to Walter T. Rattenborg took place May 29, 1958 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Eighth and Walnut streets in Atlantic with Pastor C. M. Videback officiating. Marie was employed as Office Manager by Iowa Electric, the Gas Division, from 1926 to 1958, She lived in the Atlantic King Apartments for 42 years. Marie was a member of St. Paul"s Lutheran Church in Atlantic; a charter member of BPOE Does #23; Lotus Rebekah Lodge; Past Noble Grand Club; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary; World War I Barracks Auxiliary; and a former member of Royal Neighbors. While employed at the gas office, she was a member of the Atlantic BPW. In her younger days, she sang in the Congregational church choir at Fifth and Walnut streets and she was active in town affairs. Her husband, Walter Rattenborg, passed away September 1, 1973, while visiting in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota with his sister, Mrs. Folmer Hansen. Because of severe heart problems and ear trouble, it was necessary to give up the second floor apartment at King"s and move to Modale, Iowa to be near her sister, Jessie Britt in 1986. In 1996 she moved to Longmont, Colorado, to live with her brother, Darrell.Surviving are one brother, Darrell Beck and his wife Cecelia, of Longmont, Colorado; one brother-in-law, Charles Compton of Littleton, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Jesse Brett, January 17, 1999, and Evelyn Compton, April 17, 1999; a sister-in-law, Ann Rattenborg; and a brother-in-law, Harold Miller.Funeral InformationServices for Marie were held Thursday, July 12, 2001, at 1:30PM at the Roland Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Barnett of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating.Interment was in the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa.
