Obituary for Gladys R. Rabe

Gladys Rosina Rabe, 94, passed away Monday, December 11, 2006 at the Atlantic Heritage House. She was the daughter of Maude Tanner and Emil Rabe. Gladys was born June 26, 1912, 9 ½ miles south east of Griswold. Gladys' mother died when she was only three years old. Her Dad, Emil and her Grandmother Rabe raised Gladys and her siblings. Gladys attended country school near the farm were she lived all her life until 2001. At that time, she moved to Heritage House in Atlantic.St. John's Church was very important to Gladys. She was baptized and confirmed and attended there all her life. Gladys loved working in her flower beds and in her garden. She enjoyed playing cards and traveling. She loved to play her pump organ and the ukulele and to play ball with the kids in the yard. Gladys was known for her "Goodie Drawer". When visiting Gladys, everyone was fed a lunch before leaving for home.She was preceded in death be her parents, her two brothers, Roy and Ross, and her two sisters, Mildred Sherer and Blanche Krause; nephews, Roger Rabe, Cleo Krause, Lloyd Krause; nieces Dorothy DeBord , Marian Embree and her husband Moe; a good friend and hired hand – Don Petty. She is survived be Stanley Sherer and wife Betty of Gundy Center, Dale Sherer and wife Peggy of Tempe, Arizona, Lois Dix and husband Richard of Greenfield , IA, Raymond Rabe and wife Sandy of Statesville, North Carolina, Karen Phillips and husband Dick of Des Moines, Joyce Amos and husband Gordon of Griswold and many great nieces and nephews and friends. The family greatly appreciates your presence, thoughts and prayers and acts of kindness at this time.
