Obituary for Ricky Lee Prall

RICKY LEE PRALL Ricky Prall, 57, long time resident of Anita, Iowa , died following a battle with esophageal cancer, Tuesday afternoon, September 2, 2008 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Rick, the son of Robert and Daraline Prall, was born April 26th, 1951, in Atlantic, IA. He attended Jackson Elementary School and Atlantic High School. During his teen years, he worked in restaurants. As an adult, he worked for several construction companies, one of which was Andrews" Roofing where he worked for several years. Rick was married to Cathleen Lorraine Murphy of Adair on February 27, 1976 in Atlantic, Iowa. The couple lived in rural Atlantic and was blessed with a daughter Wendy Rae on September 8, 1976. They lived in a little ol" school house by the ol" Rock Quarry on Highway 71. In the early part of 1981 Rick worked at Oakland Beef Packing Plant. Son Matthew Robert arrived on February 13, 1979. Rick then bought his own equipment and began the Atlantic Roofing Co. in 1981. A third child Sarah Lynn joined the family on October 4 of 1981. Shortly after their family was complete, the Prall family moved to rural Anita and then into town by 1984. In 1990 Rick was hospitalized and diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. In spite of the set back, he then finished his high school equivalency and began college courses. During this time, his brother Don and brother-in-law Frank Waters got him out on the golf course. This soon was a new hobby (which became a passion) for him as he became a member of the Crestwood Hills Country Club. He occasionally took his first grandson Brady and nephew Waylen along with him on his golf outings. From 1996 to June 2008 Rick was employed as a set up operator and lead man at the Atlantic bearing plant (currently known as Mahle) where he met many new friends. He is survived by his wife Cathleen Prall of Anita; his three children Wendy Wright and her husband Jason and their daughters Grace, Emma and Carly of Atlantic; Matt Prall and his fiancé Amber Morgan and their two children Finnian and Mabry of Atlantic; Sarah Prall and her son Brady Beerman of Anita; his three siblings Sheryl Waters and husband Frank of Cumberland, Donald Prall and wife Pamela of Atlantic and Colette Sparks and husband Jeff of Red Oak; eight nieces and ten nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father Robert "Bob&" W. Prall and mother Daraline B. Prall; grandparents, Robert McKnight and Emma Marie Prall and George and Mable (Smith) Meek; father-in-law, Jerome P. Murphy.Funeral InformationThere will be open visitation and his family will meet with friends Monday evening, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, from 7:00 to 8:30. His funeral service will Tuesday morning at 11:00 at Rolands followed by the interment in the Atlantic Cemetery.
