Jethro Pont

Jethro (Jake) Pont, 84, of Griswold, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2001, at his residence.The son of Russell and Lethe Inez McFadden Pont, Jake was born December 6, 1916 southeast of Lewis, Iowa. Jake was united in marriage to Helen Priscilla Mountain October 23, 1935 in Yuma, Colorado. Following marriage, they lived in Griswold for a short while before moving southeast of Lewis in 1936 where he farmed. In 1946 they moved north of Wiota, in 1949 they located south of Walnut and in 1951 they lived 3 miles west of Cumberland. In 1967 they moved 7 miles south of Atlantic and Jake worked for Dahl Air Conditioning of Van Meter until retirement. They moved to the family home place in Griswold in 1971. Jake loved farming, working at Dahl"s and visiting with family and friends.Surviving are his wife, Helen; one son, David Pont and his wife, Donna, of Guttenberg, Iowa; two daughters, Rita Rohde and her husband, Robert, of Ida Grove, Iowa and Carole Schuler of Atlantic; grandchildren, Lee Ann Rice and her husband, John, of Waterloo, Iowa, Brian Pont of Guttenberg, Iowa, Marty Pont of Des Moines, Iowa, Michael Dasher of Corning, Iowa, Kyle Dasher and her husband, Barry Newton, of Lenox, Iowa, Amy Snyder and her husband, Scott, of Urbandale, Iowa, Chris Schuler of West Des Moines, Sara Hooge and her husband, Jesse, of Ames, Iowa and Jon Schuler of Ames, Iowa; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, LeRoy (Roy) Pont of Glenwood, Iowa; one sister, Leota Snyder and her husband Merle of Anita; two sisters-in-law, Mary Pont of Clarksville, Arkansas, and Margaret Pont of Griswold, Iowa; and a number of nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Milo Pont, Elmer Pont, and Claude Pont; one sister, Ruth Aldag; three sisters in-law, Harriet Pont, Leona Pont and Ella Pont; and one brother-in-law, Otto Aldag.Funeral InformationServices for Jake were held Wednesday, August 22, 2001, at 10:00AM at the United Methodist Church in Griswold, Iowa with Reverend Richard L. Jenkins officiating.Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery, Lewis, Iowa
