Jack Pittman

Jack Wheatley Pittman, 85, of Atlantic, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Heritage House in Atlantic. The son of Albert W. and Dearie M. Wheatley Pittman, Jack was born May 17, 1925 north of Atlantic in Cass County, Iowa. He attended country school near his family's farm and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1942. Jack was united in marriage to Darlene Rich on March 26, 1944 in Atlantic. They had one child, Connie, born in August of 1945. Jack and Darlene farmed in Cass County until 1957 when they moved to a farm in Shelby County south of Elk Horn. In 1964 they bought their farm northwest of Walnut where they lived until moving to Atlantic in December of 1982. They continued farming until retirement in August of 1988. Jack and Darlene joined St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic in 1952. Jack and his daughter were baptized together on August 16, 1952. Darlene passed away on September 13, 2002. In 2007 Jack joined United Church of Christ in Atlantic. He moved into Heritage House in March of 2008. Jack was a successful farmer and genuinely loved farming and rural life. He had an avid interest in aviation and, at one time, had his private pilot's license. Over the years he donated many gallons of blood to the local Red Cross Association. Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene, his parents Albert and Dearie Pittman and his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Betty Pittman. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Paul Bischoff of Burnsville, MN, two grandsons, Chad and wife Bryna of Farmington, MN, Brian and wife Jane of Burnsville, MN, great grandson, Liam Bischoff and step-great granddaughter, Genesis Keyzer of Farmington, MN, a brother-in-law, Joseph Brumbaugh of Atlantic and one niece and four nephews. Funeral Information There will be an open visitation for Jack daily from Thursday, March 3 until Tuesday, Mar 8 from 8:00 – 5:30 at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul"s Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Pastor Dennis Meyer of St. Paul"s Lutheran Church and Pastor Nancy Jensen of the United Church of Christ in Atlantic will be officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery immediately following services. The Roland Funeral Home will be caring for Jack"s family and his arrangements.
