Obituary for William Legion Pitka

William Legion Pitka, 81, of rural Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, December 9, 2002, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.The son of William Edward and Louise Marie (McCoy) Pitka, Bill was born April 15, 1921 in Tama, Iowa. He lived in Tama, Toledo and Sumner, Iowa before moving to Montezuma in 1935, graduating from Montezuma High School in 1939. He was united in marriage to Treva Hicks on April 5, 1941 in Brownwood, Texas. Bill served in the United States Navy and then in the Army during World War II. Bill and Treva moved to Atlantic in 1957. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he had been a Lay Speaker. He had been active in Meals on Wheels, Lions Club and American Legion. As a member of the Nishna Hills Golf Club, he played with the senior golfers, the Wobblies. He also held a private pilot's license.Surviving are his wife Treva Pitka; two daughters, Ceatta Mann of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Melody Winter of Montevideo, Minnesota; one Son William Frederick Pitka and his wife Ann of North Augusta, South Carolina; grandchildren, Ryan Pellett and Susan, Rick Mann and Rina, Beth Salesberry and Jon, Aaron Pellet and Dawn, Bill A. Pitka and his fiancée Carrie, Angela Ludgate and Steve; great grandchildren, Matthew Pellett, Meghan Pellett, Mathew Salesberry, Michael Pellett, Victoria Pellett, Melodie Pellett-Ludgate; two sisters, Edie Peters and husband Marion of Peoria, Arizona, and Beulah Evans of Grinnell, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.He was preceded in death by his parents; one son H. James Pitka; and one brother Edward Pitka in infancy.Funeral InformationFuneral services for William will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2002, at 1:30 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic with Rev. Tompsie Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
