Leo Herbert Pieken
Leo Herbert Pieken, 76, of Atlantic, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 20, 2001, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.The son of John and Lillian Francis (Pross) Pieken, Leo was born October 30, 1924 in Atlantic where he grew up and attended Atlantic High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. His marriage to Darlene May Peterson took place June 4, 1949 at the Congregational Church in Atlantic. Leo was a member of the United Church of Christ in Atlantic. He was a janitor for the Atlantic Community Schools for 50 years, retiring in June of 1987. Leo received in honorary diploma from Atlantic High School in November of 2000.Surviving are his wife Darlene Pieken of Atlantic; three sons, Tom Pieken and his wife, Jan, of Crescent, Randy Pieken of Atlantic and Roger Pieken and his wife, Jody, of Lake View; two daughters, Nancy Nolte and her husband, Tom, of Grasslake, Michigan and Linda Oliver and her husband, Fred, of Oakland, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Chris and Kate Oliver, Nick and Zachary Nolte, Michael and Brett Pieken, and Taylor, Abbey, Hunter and Kennedy Pieken; two brothers, Robert Pieken and his wife, Alice, of Thornton, Colorado and Earl Pieken and his wife, Margret, of Glenwood, Iowa; and a number of nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Francis.Funeral InformationServices for Leo were held on Saturday, June 23, 2001, at 10:30AM at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic, Iowa with Reverend C. Thomas Ingham officiating. Interment was in the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa.
