Phyllis Pierce

Phyllis Pierce

Phyllis Pierce, 78, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Atlantic Specialty Care.

Phyllis was born in Atlantic, Iowa, on April 15, 1945, to Ralph and Blanche (Gearhardt) Frisbie.  She graduated from Atlantic High School in 1963.

On April 19, 1969, she was united in marriage to Norman Fries at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic.  He died on August 31, 1992.  She later married James Pierce on June 15, 1996, at Zion Lutheran Church.  He died October 2, 2012.  She lived northeast of Atlantic most of her life and through the years she babysat and cleaned houses for many people.  Tidy housekeeping was something Phyllis just had a knack for and enjoyed from the second a broom was placed in her hand as a little girl.  In the days prior to Phyllis’ passing, she commented on how she would be able to keep all the rooms in Heaven in tip-top shape (John 14:1-6).

Phyllis was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Phyllis enjoyed going to basketball games when she was younger and in recent years, events at the senior center.  She liked country music and a good word search.  Phyllis raised a large garden, canning and freezing a lot of her harvest.  She looked forward to hosting not only holiday gatherings but other parties throughout the year and had just recently had everyone over for Thanksgiving.  She didn’t start driving until in her 20’s, and if you ever rode with her, you knew she had a bit of a lead foot.  Phyllis never hesitated to share that her brother, Jim had taught her that.

Phyllis’ caring spirit, heart of gold, and twinkle in her eye will be deeply missed by her brother, Jim Frisbie and his wife, Susan of Atlantic; nieces, Rory (Cyle) Rush of Omaha and Megan Frisbie of Exira; and many cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
