Norval Peter Petersen, 80, of Atlantic, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 13, 2001 at the Cass County Memorial HospitalThe son of Henry and Emma (Hansen) Petersen, Norval was born July 20, 1920 at Beaver Crossing near Cordova, Nebraska where he grew up and attended rural school. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Norval was united in marriage to Eloise Pearl Knop on August 12, 1943 in Atlantic. Following his discharge from the Army in 1945, they farmed west of Atlantic leaving the farm in 1983 when they moved into Atlantic and retired in 1986. Norval was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic.Surviving are his wife, Eloise Petersen of Atlantic; one son, Gilbert Petersen and his wife, Pat; two granddaughters, Stacey and Leslie Petersen, all of Nevada, Iowa; three brothers, Merlin Petersen, Maynard Petersen and his wife, Faye, and Darwin Petersen and his wife, Beverly, all of York, Nebraska; two sisters, Alvra Cox and her husband, Eugene, of Harlan and Erma Hoffman of York, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Joyce Petersen, of Utica, Nebraska; and a number of Nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Marcia Elgin in September of 1968 and Pamela who was stillborn in 1954; two brothers, Clayton and Willard Petersen.Funeral InformationServices were held Saturday, June 16, 2001 at 10:30 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa with Pastor Allen D. Hellwege officiating. Interment was in the Atlantic Cemetery.
