Obituary for
Judith M. Petersen
Judith Petersen, 71, of Atlantic, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Judith Mary Siders was born on November 22, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Earl George and Artillia Marguerite (Riccelli) Siders. From the age of 5 through graduation she attended the Iowa School for the Deaf, and graduated in 1961. While there, she met her future husband, Soren. They were married on September 18, 1965, in Des Moines, and made Atlantic their home for nearly 50 years.
For many years Judith worked for Walnut Grove in Data Entry, and following their closure worked in the mailroom at the Atlantic News Telegraph. After taking co-ownership of the Atlantic Bookbinding Co. in 1992, Judith did the bookkeeping until their retirement in 2010.
When Judith wasn't busy at the shop she enjoyed puzzles, cross stitching and cooking for her family, especially baking pies, and she never missed a basketball game of her beloved Iowa Hawkeyes. She will be remembered for her large collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia and her love for her Shih Tzu. Judith took great pride in her children and grandchildren and would attend many of their activities. She was active in the deaf community and served many officer roles for the Iowa Association of the Deaf.
Judith is survived by her husband, Soren; children, Samuel (Gale) Petersen of West Des Moines, Iowa; Johanna (Kirk) Bradley of Atlantic, Iowa; and Dr. Shawn (Daurine) Petersen of Atlantic, Iowa; grandchildren, Clinton Petersen, Robby Petersen, Samantha Petersen, Hope Bowker and Nile Petersen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Artillia Siders; and brother, George Siders on February 6, 2014.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic with Father Chori Seraiah, celebrant.
Burial will take place at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.
Open visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2014, at Roland Funeral Home. No visitation with the family will be held.
