Berdele Petersen

Berdele Petersen, 82, a resident of Atlantic, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2005 at the Atlantic Care and Rehab Center.Berdele was born, December 10, 1922, the daughter of Henry M. and Minnie (Frank) Sothman, at their farm home southwest of Cumberland, Iowa.She attended the country school at Pringey #2 in Cumberland and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1941. Berdele taught school for 4 years north of Marne before she was married. On December 9 1944, she was wedded to Arthur LeRoy Petersen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They farmed in the Lewis, Marne and Hancock areas and the couple was blessed with a family of five children. After Art passed away, Berdele lived in Council Bluffs a few months, then took a position for fourteen years, at Stonecroft Headquarters, in Kansas City. In 1993 she moved back to Co. Bluffs, then to Red Oak for two years as a companion to an elderly lady. Following an illness, she came to Atlantic in 1998.Berdele will be remembered for gardening and her love of flowers, baking and canning, painting and crafts, which she enjoyed sharing with others, and was a great one to "keep in touch" through card writing.Survivors include her daughters, Donna Smith of Omaha, Diane Cremo of San Diego, CA, Debbie Lange of Council Bluffs, Denise Miller of El Cajon, CA; her son Dennis Petersen and wife Sharon of Minneapolis,MN; twelve grandchildren, Michelle Darrah, Sonja Smith, Christina Larney , Adam Petersen , Aaron Petersen, Ashlee Petersen, Angela Schueman, Jacquelyn True, Joshua True, Summer Cremo, Wynter Cremo and Luke Cremo; six great grandchildren, Sarah Opsahl, Katie Spandee, Jasmine Moore, Leah Moore, Alece Moore, Sydney Schueman.; one great, great granddaughter, Felicia Opsahl; a number of nieces and nephews; five sisters, Arlene Riepe of Griswold, Aletha Sanny of Goodman, MO, Marcella Costello of Imogene, Alberta Becker of Cumberland and Janet Thompson of Marshfield, MO; sisters-in-law; Darlene Petersen of Atlantic, Norma Jean Sothman of Atlantic and Eleanora Peteresen of Adair.
