ANNABELL MARIE (HANSEN) PETERSEN

Annabell Marie Petersen, at the age of 89, passed away Wednesday, March 6th at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Annabell was born to Nels P. and Mary H. (Daugard) Hansen at her parent’s home in Audubon County. She grew up in the Brayton, Iowa area and attended country school at Audubon County #2 through the eighth grade. She attended the Oak Hill Lutheran Church west of Brayton.

On August 27, 1945 she was married to Orville L. Petersen at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, Kansas.

Annabell was employed as a bookkeeper for Chadwick’s Feed and Grain in Anita, Iowa. She cooked in cafes and was a housekeeper at the Anita Colonial Manor. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary in Brayton and loved gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Annabell is survived by three daughters, Darlene (Leonard) Jessen of Anita, Susan (Craig) Fusselman of Marne, IA and Janice (William) Ainsworth of San Diego, CA; daughter-in-law, Delores Petersen of Jefferson, OR; special daughter, Becky (Bernard) Vais of Anita; two brothers, Richard Hansen of Brayton and Dale (Melva) Hansen of Scott City, KS; eight grandchildren, Clint Dorsey, Les (Ronda) Dorsey, Mark (Theresa) Opbroek, Matthew Opbroek, C. J. (Kari) Harman, Richard (Sherry) Petersen, and Tammie (Scott) Austin; step grandchildren, John Jessen, LeAnn (Alan) Josephsen, Barbara (Chuck) Poirier, Melissa (Alan) Appenzeller, David Ainsworth and a number of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her son, LaVern Petersen; her parents; grandson Michael D. Opbroek; son-in-law Lyle Dorsey; brother Jens P. Hansen; sister-in-law Gert Hansen and a nephew Dale Hansen Jr.

Her celebration of life will be held at 11AM on Monday March, 11 at The Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, IA with Rev. Ted Weishaupt officiating. The committal service, with family present, will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery west of Brayton, IA, at 9:30AM, prior to the funeral. The family will meet with relatives and friends at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic from 4-6PM on Sunday, March 10. There will be open visitation Friday 8AM-5:30PM, Saturday 9AM-12PM, and Sunday 1-4PM.
