Daniel Peters

Daniel L. Peters, 70, longtime resident of Marne and Atlantic passed away at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Saturday morning, April 21, 2007.Dan was born the son of G. Bruce and A. Gwendolyn (Trailer) Peters in Atlantic Iowa on December 6, 1936. He grew up attending the Rural Brighton #9 School and the Atlantic Community Schools, where he was graduated from the Atlantic High School Class of 1955.Following high school, Daniel led a versatile life, having been employed by United Airlines, in Chicago, IL, where he worked for several years in the offices where airline tickets were sold; he moved to San Francisco, CA and worked as a cook on Fisherman's Wharf for a short time; he then returned to Iowa and operated the family farm for many years. When Daniel left the farm, he was employed for American Buildings in Atlantic in inventory control and then Glacier Vanderville in Atlantic until he retired in 1999. During retirement he worked part time at the Heritage House helping in the kitchen and serving food at mealtimes, where he was a gracious server and became well acquainted with the residents who will miss him very much.Dan was a member of Grove Lodge # 492 AF and AM in Marne and the Liberty Chapter OES # 230 in Marne. He took great pleasure in raising draft horses, showing collie dogs, music and gardening. He will be remembered for his friendliness, thoughtfulness and endearing sense of humor.Dan is survived by a sister Loretta and husband William Baker of Clive, IA; a brother, Jerome and wife Dorothy Peters of Marne, IA and a niece and nephews, Cameron J. and wife Andrea Baker of Elkhart, IA, Joel W. and wife Andrea Baker of Des Moines, IA, Jonathan B. Baker and fiancée Lyndsay Floyd of Des Moines, IA, Bruce D. Peters of rural Walnut, IA and Cynthia and husband Dustin Jensen of rural Harlan, IA.; grandnieces and grandnephews, Ian Baker, Gabriella Baker, Jared Baker, Ethan Baker, Annika Baker, Isabella Baker and Lillian Baker, Samantha Jensen, Tyrel Peters, Kyler Jacobs, Jolene Jensen, Mateya Peters, Elly Peters. Dan is also survived by his Aunt Katherine Cavin of the Heritage House in Atlantic, several cousins and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, G. Bruce and A.
