TED PELLETT
Ted Pellett, 90, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014, peacefully in his home surrounded by his family.
The son of Clarence and Ollie Mayberry Pellett, Ted was born March 7, 1924 in Atlantic, Iowa. He grew up there and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1941. Ted then attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, where he played football and pledged Kappa Theta Psi Fraternity. He returned to Atlantic during the war to help care for the family farm.
Ted was united in marriage to Katherine Ellen Maher January 19, 1952 in Colfax, Iowa. He was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church and was also active in the Atlantic Lions Club, the YMCA Indian Guide Program, and the Farm Bureau. Ted and his brothers pursued various investment opportunities, one of which resulted in the foundation of Riverwood Farms Inc.
Ted loved farming, woodworking, football, playing bridge, and traveling, especially to Spirit Lake, Iowa and Sarasota, Florida. He also enjoyed playing checkers, ping-pong, and horseshoes, and was said to be champion at them all. Christmas Eve was Ted’s favorite holiday as the house was always full of family, friends, and the Christmas Spirit.
Ted is survived by his wife Katherine and his six children, Pamela Flaa (Larry), Kathy Swinnerton (Jeff), Mark Pellett (Debra), Lisa Thibodeau, Suzanne Chandler (John), and Traci Pavletich (Dean). In addition, he is survived by his fourteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Haleen Pellett, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Ollie, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Elsie Pellett, Valentine (Vallie) and Eloise Pellett, Wendell Pellett, and Paul and Betty Lew Pellett.
