LLOYD EMMANUEL PEDERSEN Lloyd Emmanuel Pedersen, life long resident of Atlantic, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 13, 2009, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital at the age of 82. Lloyd was born December 18, 1926 to Nels Emmanuel and Edna Christina (Gerhardt) Pedersen in Gates, Iowa. He attended rural grade schools in Audubon and Cass counties and earned his GED from Iowa Community Western College. Lloyd enlisted in the Army on March 7, 1946 and was discharged on September 19, 1947. As a 2nd grader, Norma Jean fell in love with a special boy in the 7th grade. In years to come, the fairy tale became reality when Lloyd fell in love with her. On June 17, 1951, Lloyd and Norma Jean Lund were married at the Anita Lutheran Church in Anita, Iowa. Through the years they raised kids, crops, cows and hogs. He enjoyed farming and farmed for over 50 years. Lloyd could be found having coffee and shakes at McDonalds, reading and watching TV news, at farm sales, shooting pool and riding motorcycles. He was active in the Brayton Lutheran Church Council and wouldn't miss the Brayton and Hamlin dart ball team. He laughed a lot watching "2 ½ Men" and loved hearing "Ryck's" stories. He took great pride in his grandchildren and loved watching them grow. Lloyd will always be remembered as a man of strength and warmth. Survivors include his wife Norma Jean of Atlantic; daughter, Llala Klein and husband John of Cuba City, Wisconsin and their family, Kalee Klein, James 'JJ' Klein, Della (Klein) Otradovec of New Frankin, Wisconsin and Emily Klein of Lakeville, Minnesota; son, Ryck Pedersen and Margy of Lander, Wyoming and his sons, Samuel Pedersen and Eliah Pedersen; daughter, Llesa Stierle and husband Rolf of Atlantic, Iowa and family, Sonya (Stierle) Marson and her wife Mary of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Nicole (Stierle) Bradshaw and husband Troy of Brush, Colorado; several foster and step great and great-great grandchildren; brothers and sister, Wayne Pedersen and wife Betty of Atlantic, Wanda Nelson of Exira, Iowa and Lyle Pedersen of Harlan, Iowa. Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law LaVerne Nelson.Funeral Information There will be open viewing at the Roland Funeral Home daily from 8:00 - 5:00 with a family visitation Friday evening from 6:00 - 9:00. Services for Lloyd will be held Saturday, October 17, at the Brayton Lutheran Church at 2:00 pm with Pastor Steven Frock officiating. Interment will be in the Oakhill Cemetery west of Brayton following services. Roland Funeral Services in Atlantic are caring for Lloyd's family and the arrangements.
