Pearl Lee Shrimpton, 92, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed Friday, April 25, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family.
Pearl Lee was born on May 28, 1932, in Clearfield, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth Lee and Marvel Marie (Hidlay) Hays. Pearl Lee grew up and attended school in Clearfield, Iowa, where she was proud to play basketball for the Clearfield Orioles, winning many titles. She graduated from Clearfield High School in 1951. She went on to attend business school in Omaha.
After graduating, the family moved to Bedford, Iowa and operated the Junction Café. In 1955, a tall, curly haired man with light blue eyes came into the café and smiled. Pearl Lee was married to Lyle Edwin Shrimpton in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. Born to this union was a daughter, Bonnie Mary. They lived in Bedford for a year and lived the rest of their lives together in Atlantic. Lyle passed away in 1999. Pearl loved living on the acreage that she and Lyle built board by board with the help of their friends.
Pearl and Lyle raised Old English Sheepdogs; traveling all over the United States showing them and making friends along the way, especially John and Sue Montgomery.
Pearl was a rural mail carrier for the Atlantic Post Office for 16 years, enjoying every mile and all of her co-workers. They always held a special place in her heart and she loved keeping in touch with them. After her retirement, Pearl and her family purchased the Hallmark Store in Atlantic, keeping her busy until her health would no longer allow.
Friends and family meant the world to Pearl. She enjoyed spending time with her high school friends on their “girls trips” which included, Bonnie (Thompson) Routh, Joanne (Levi) Petersen and Donna (Richey) Norton. She also enjoyed her dear friends, Eleanor Hoover, John and Sue Montgomery and too many others to name.
Left to mourn her are her daughter, Bonnie Mary; her grandchildren, Nichole Marie and Tobin Lee; and her great-grandchildren, Cain, Davon, Xeylend, Lexi and Aaron.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lyle Edwin Shrimpton.
