Joan Reese Pauls
Joan Reese Pauls, 68, of Atlantic, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.The daughter of Walter Helms and Mary Lorraine (Sallee) Reese, Joan was born December 17, 1933, at home on a farm near Coin, Iowa where she grew up, graduated from Coin High School in 1951, and went on to graduate from Clarinda Jr. college in 1953. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Pauls on July 6, 1957 in Coin, Iowa. Joan taught school at Hoover Elementary School in Council Bluffs for seven years. She was manager of the Cass County Red Cross Chapter from 1982 until 1998. Joan was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic. She was also a member of the Jackson School PTA, District United Methodist Women, a Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Den Mother, and a charter member of Beta Mu chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.Surviving are her husband Robert Pauls of Atlantic; four daughters Lois Jessen and her husband Loren of Chariton, Iowa, Carolyn Lehnus and her husband Mike of Urbandale, Iowa, Laurel Smith and her husband Greg of Atkins, Texas, and Nancy Pauls and her fiancé Brad Toberman of Montréal, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Mary, Thomas and Peter Jessen of Chariton, and James, Noah, Hannah, Bethany and Luke Smith of Atkins, Texas; one brother Robert Rees and his wife Phyllis of Shenandoah and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.Proceeding her in death were her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, J.
