Robert "Bob" "Ozzie" Paul
Robert "Ozzie" L. Paul, age 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Bickford Care Center in Midland, Michigan.
Robert was born in Atlantic, Iowa on December 28, 1923 to Otto Paul and Katherine (Christensen) Paul. He grew up in Atlantic and upon graduation he entered the Navy Air Corp. Following Navy Officer and Flight Training, Robert was commissioned an Ensign on July 22, 1944. He was assigned to fly a Navy fighter aircraft. After the war Robert enrolled at the University of Iowa and graduated with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation he went to work for Consumers Power Company in Michigan as a Power Sales Engineer where he remained until his retirement in 1983. He met and married his wife, Patricia, in Kalamazoo. They had two children, David and Susan, and moved to Jackson, MI in 1964. Both children graduated from the University of Michigan.
Robert was a talented and active golfer. He was a member of the Atlantic High School golf team winning the State Golf High School Championship in 1942 and went on to win many tournaments and trophies throughout his life. Robert was a member of the Kalamazoo Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Kalamazoo and Jackson Kiwanis Clubs, the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers and the Jackson American Legion. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church.
He is predeceased by: his wife, Patricia Paul, his brother, Edward Paul and his sister, Opal Nepolitano. Robert is survived by his children; David (Lori) Paul and Susan (Arthur) Maerlender, and his grandchildren; Laura (Terry) Matzke, Ryan (Amanda) Paul, their mother, Marcia Paul, and Christina Maerlender, Michael Maerlender, and Lori's children; Caity and Erik and Robert’s sister, Elsie Shepard.
A service celebrating his life will occur later in August at the Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Interment of ashes will also occur at a later date in the Atlantic Cemetery.
