Obituary for Mary M. Parker (Helms)

Mary M. Parker, 69, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at CHI Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs.

Mary Margaret Helms was born on October 5, 1948, in Auburn, Nebraska, the daughter of Glen and Wilda (Mathis) Helms. She attended Atlantic Community Schools graduating in the Class of 1966. After graduation, she cleaned houses for several years in the Atlantic area. Mary later worked at Mahle Engine Components, retiring after 35 years. She was united in marriage to Douglas Duane Parker in Atlantic, Iowa. Mary enjoyed going to the casino, browsing Facebook, and playing computer games especially, Texas Hold’em. She was also an avid Cher fan. She and her brother Everett recently enjoyed a cruise in the Caribbean, Mexico and through the Panama Canal.

Mary is survived by her children, Donna Davidson of Atlantic, Robert Leslie and his wife Joyce, of Atlantic, Iowa; step-son, Travis Armstrong; grandchildren, Justin, Jeannie, and Jessica Davidson, Laci and Tye Leslie, Donaven Christensen, Lucas Stone, and Cara Larson; several great-grandchildren; brother, Everett Helms of Atlantic; sister, Judy Bahr and her husband, Dennis of Stella, Nebraska; long-time friend, Ardith Erickson of Longmont, CO; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Douglas Parker; sister, Marilyn Kirkendall; brother, Billy Helms; and half-sister, Gladys Holgrem.

Open visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2018 and 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at Roland Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, with Pastor Ken Davidson of Zion Lutheran Church officiating.

Memorials are preferred to the family for designation at a later date.
