DOUGLAS DUANE PARKER Douglas Duane Parker of Atlantic, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 53. Douglas was born to Robert L. and Esther M. (Abel) Parker on September 9, 1955 in Omaha, Nebraska. They later moved to Atlantic and he attended the Atlantic schools. On January 16, 1988, Doug was united in marriage to Mary Margaret (Helms) Leslie in Atlantic. They had three children. He was employed by Henningsen Construction for 20 years working in construction with asphalt. Douglas enjoyed playing solitaire games on the computer, playing cards with his wife and working with the tools in his garage. A trip to the Black Hills was a memorable vacation for him and he enjoyed the holidays with his family especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. Douglas will be remembered as having fun teasing just about everyone. He is survived by his wife Mary of Atlantic; two sons, Robert Leslie of Atlantic and Travis Armstrong of Shenandoah, Iowa; one daughter Donna Davidson of Atlantic; and six grandchildren, Justin, Jeannie and Jessica Davidson, Laci and Tye Leslie and Donivan Christensen; and two great grandchildren, Corbin Leslie and Jayden Leslie of Griswold, Iowa. Douglas is preceded in death by his mother Esther Parker; mother and father-in-law, Glen and Wilda Helms; son-in-law Mark DeShong; brothers-in-law Billy Helms and Charles Kirkendall and sister-in-law Gladys Holmgren.Funeral InformationServices for Doug will be held on Monday, December 8, 2008, at 1:30 at the Roland Funeral Home with Reverend Ken Davidson officiating. There will be an open visitation at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends Sunday evening from 5:00 - 7:00.
