Obituary for Audrey Mae Osler

Audrey Osler passed away on October 21, 2003 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska with her loved ones by her side. Audrey was born and raised in Lewis, Iowa and lived in the area all her life. The daughter of Chester Earl Burkhalter and Zella Mae Upson. She graduated from Lewis High School and worked as an operator on the switch board for the Lewis Telephone Company. On July 30, 1948, she married Eldon Lynn Osler in Fairbury, Nebraska. They farmed and raised five children on their 80 acres they still farm.Audrey enjoyed and tended her large flower and vegetable garden. She grew and canned much of their food. She loved music. She was self taught and could play by ear the piano, organ, keyboard, guitar and fiddle. Another hobby of Audrey's was the love of cards and games. She was involved with the Lewis Activity Center and was a regular attendee. She always had some kind of project she was working on, whether it be her braided rugs, latch hook, cracking walnuts or baking with whatever fruit was in season. She loved sitting outdoors reading with Suzy by her side. Audrey touched so many people's lives. She was truly a special person, blessed by God. There is no other Audrey, she was one of a kind. You felt fortunate to be just a small part of her life.She was a 44 year member of the Bear Grove Priscilla Club and was a tour guide and a volunteer at the gift shop at the Hitchcock House. Audrey participated every year at Pioneer Days showing the kids how to churn butter. She was a member of the Ladies of Oakwood Cemetery Association and was the treasurer for a number of years.Audrey is survived by her loving husband and Suzy, plus many, many friends, relatives and family of the heart.She was preceeded in death by her parents and grandparents and four of her beloved kids, Mike, Mitzi, Cindy and Sandy.The family request no flowers. Memorials will be directed to organizations that were dear to Audrey.Funeral InformationFriends and relatives are invited to graveside services on Friday, October 31, 2003, at 1:30 PM in the Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis, Iowa with Pastor Sharon-Guffy Lewis officiating, followed by a gathering at the Lewis United Congregational Methodist Church.
