Linda (Hansen) Osborn of Wiota, Iowa, was born July 1, 1960, in Denison, Iowa, to Eugene Harry and JoAnn Catherine (Smouse) Hansen. She passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at the young age of 59 years.
Linda graduated from Exira High School with the class of 1978, and as a young adult she traveled to California to visit her oldest brother, David, wherein she decided to take up residence in Reseda, California. There, she took a job as a carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Riverside, California and had the distinction of knowing first-hand the proverbial “mailman bit by a dog” experience, thereby effectively ending her career as a mail carrier. In California, Linda met and married Dennis Groff, and they together had one beloved son, Dennis James (D.J.) Groff.
Later, Linda and Dennis divorced and she moved back home with her young son, settling in Atlantic, Iowa. There, she met and married Leslie “Lucky” Osborn, and they made their home in Wiota, Iowa. Unfortunately, her beloved husband Lucky passed away in 2014. Linda was a diligent and versatile worker and had experience in various fields, including in the lighting manufacturing industry in Atlantic, Iowa, and the wholesale meat industry in Oakland, Iowa. At the time of her death, she was employed with the Iowa State Department of Transportation at the Iowa Welcome Center Rest Area adjacent to the town of Adair.
Linda was full of love, light, and laughter. She was known for her kindness, stead-fastness, and her, much-appreciated sense of humor. She was never afraid of hard work, nor was she shy of having fun and living in the moment. She enjoyed taking care of her family, her dog, Emmit, and her tidy home in Wiota, Iowa.
Preceding her in death were her grandparents, her parents, her husband, and an aunt, Sheila Heater.
She is survived by her son, D.J. Groff and his wife, Kenzie; her siblings, David Eugene Hansen of San Fernando, California, Jeffrey Peter and Mia Shrader of Washington, D.C., Brenda Sue Johnson of Atlantic, Iowa, Rodney Allen and Andrea Hansen of Wasilla, Alaska, and Ricky Dean Hansen of Phoenix, Arizona; also by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Open visitation will be available at Roland Funeral Home from 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Thursday, August 22nd and Friday, August 23rd. A private family service will be held.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.
