Obituary for
Dorothy I. Oliphant
Dorothy I. Oliphant, 66, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Dorothy Ilene was born on April 9, 1951, in Winner, South Dakota, the daughter of Silas Edward and Letha Celia (Reinke) Kimm. Dorothy was the sixth child in a family of seven; four boys and three girls. The family traveled where ever Silas’ job took them until moving to Lincoln, Nebraska. She attended Yankee Hill School while in Lincoln. In 1965, the family moved to Iowa, and Dorothy attended Adair-Casey High School. Following high school, she enrolled in beauty school in Lincoln, and a short time later made the decision to get married and start a family. She married her children’s father on July 11, 1971, and on November 2, 1973, they were blessed with a beautiful baby girl. On October 31, 1974, and June 25, 1977, they were again blessed with handsome baby boys. In the coming years the couple divorced, and on February 13, 1983, she was united in marriage to John Oliphant in Topeka, Kansas. The couple celebrated 35 years of marriage just days prior to Dorothy’s passing.
Dorothy felt the Lord had blessed her with a wonderful husband, children, and grandchildren. Her family and Christian friends made her beam with happiness and she cherished every moment she had with them. Her family and her faith were always top priority; taking every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren. Every day she thanked the Lord in her prayers for all the joys in her life. She was a member of New Life Church in Atlantic, where she volunteered her time with other members to help the Atlantic Food Pantry. Dorothy was also giving of her time to the Senior Center. She looked forward to getting together with friends for a game of cards; her favorite being Pitch.
