John Oler

John H. Oler, age 82, a long-time resident of 904 Hickory Street in Atlantic, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.John, the son of Emery R. and Edna Mae Humphrey Oler, was born October 7, 1915 in the rural Casey area and was baptized in the Lutheran Church. He grew up in the Anita and Wiota areas and graduated from Wiota High School in 1935. His marriage to Ruth Eleanor Dory took place June 26, 1942 in St. Joseph, Missouri. They lived in Bridgewater for two years following their marriage and then moved to Atlantic in 1944. John was employed by Sears & Roebuck as a shipping and receiving clerk until he retired in 1970. He then worked for Roland Funeral Service until 1991. John attended the United Church of Christ and was a member of Odd Fellows (IOOF).Surviving are his wife, Ruth Oler of Atlantic; one son Doug Oler and his wife Joyce of Rogers, Arkansas; one daughter Julie Mead and her husband Craig of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Sonja and Sean Oler and Bradley John and Austin Mead; two sisters, Elsie Bailey and her husband Kermit of Wiota and Arleen Rathman of Cumberland; and a number of nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his daughter Rita Kay in 1951; his parents; two sisters, Laura Rathman and Lillian Cude.Funeral InformationFuneral services will be held Monday, July 6, 1998, at 10:30 AM in the Roland Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Barnett officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
