Obituary for Ruth Norman

Ruth Norman, 96, of Atlantic, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Heritage House.

Ruth was born on March 31, 1921, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Otha and Florence (Fassett) Grady. On June 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Charles Alfred Norman in Creston, Iowa. Ruth was a faithful, loving woman to many in her life. As Chuck’s jobs took them to different places all over the world, Ruth was always at his side. Her memberships in PEO and the United Church of Christ gave her opportunities to serve in the different communities they called home. As they moved to various areas they also made sure to take in the culture and sight see. In 2005, the couple moved from Evansville, Indiana, to Atlantic to be closer to family while residing at the Heritage House.

Ruth was marvelous cook and prepared many extravagant recipes through the years. She always put a lot of thought into the gifts she gave and never missed sending a birthday or anniversary card. Ruth always sent the card in plenty of time and through the years these cards served as a friendly reminder to others in the house. Ruth and Chuck always enjoyed getting together with friends for supper or a game of cards. While living at Heritage House Ruth could often be found playing cards and BINGO, and she looked forward to the end of the month wine and cheese events.

Ruth is survived by nine nieces and nephews including locally, Jo (Jack) Wagner and close church friend, Norma Brix.

She was preceded in death by husband, Charles; brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin (Margaret) Norman and Ralph (Barbara) Norman; and sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary (Raymond) Becker.

Per Ruth’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a committal service will be held at later date in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton, Iowa.

Roland Funeral Service is caring for Ruth’s family and her arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com
