Norman Knight, 61, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Friday, June 2, 2023, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Norman Ray was born on May 8, 1962, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Jackie Lee and Violet May (Anderson) Knight. As a kid Norman was shy, quiet, responsible and saved his money, often not going to the skating rink so he didn’t spend it. His love of the outdoors started at a young age; he was at the pool constantly and the family would go camping, fishing and hunting. He graduated from Atlantic High School in the Class of 1981.
Norman was dedicated to being a dad until his children were grown. It was then he decided to begin dating. On August 3, 2013, he was united in marriage to Chanda Davis at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic and the couple honeymooned in Jamaica. Chanda would tell you they were meant to be and he showed her genuine love.
He worked as a supervisor at Pamida and DeLong’s. The last 16 years he was employed by Wal-Mart as the Freezer Manager and Overnight Team Leader, which he did side by side with Chanda.
Norman’s kids recall the fun times they had whether it be outdoors, bowling or wrestling around the house which usually ended in one of them in a figure 4. It would surprise some, but he loved the older country music, westerns, and one of his favorite movies was The Sound of Music. He was a hunter through and through and recently had taken up bow hunting. Norman was in a bowling league, his team’s name was Super Bowl, for many years, scoring well most of the time and was proud to have bowled a 300. He was a huge NASCAR, Iowa Hawkeye and Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Even with his shy demeanor he showed his orneriness from time to time and had a wonderful sense of humor. Norman will be deeply missed by his wife, Chanda Knight; parents, Jack and Violet Knight; children, John (Kelly Pickett) Knight, Cheryle (Troy Mack) Knight, Daniel Knight and Jeff (Marjorie) Knight; step-children, Brianna (Chance) Thomas, Ryan (Chelsie) Camden and Emily Garside; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Kelly (Marlo) Knight; fathers-in-law, Jim Davis and Steve Callaway; brother-in-law, Micah (Goldie) Davis, Steven (Sarah) Callaway and Paul Brown; sister-in-law, Jayne Knight; nieces and nephews; and many extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents; sister, Brenda Brown; nephew, KJ Knight and mother-in-law, Debra Callaway.
Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 9, 2023, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic.
