Lela Nolte

Lela "Ilene&" Nolte, age 85, passed away Saturday evening, February 28, 2004, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic Iowa.Ilene was born March 8, 1918 to Frederic Earl and Dora Biggs (Sellman) Reed in Guthrie Center, Iowa. She grew up there and was a graduate of the Guthrie Center High School. On April 24, 1936 Ilene was joined in marriage to Willard (Bill) Nolte in Guthrie Center. She also lived in Des Moines, Audubon, Stuart, Eagle Grove moving to Atlantic on December 18, 1956.In addition to being a homemaker, Ilene worked in the retail grocery business as a cashier and department manager for Swanson's and HY-VEE for 15 years until her retirement December 30, 1976. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Atlantic The American Legion Auxiliary, the Nishna Valley Rock Club and the Atlantic Woman's Club.Ilene is survived by one sister, Ursul Morrison of West Des Moines, Iowa; two nephews, Carroll Morrison and wife Ruth Ann of Minburn, Iowa and Gerald Stroud and wife Phylis of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; for nieces, Norma Griebel and husband Gail of Seattle, Washington, Mary Jane Bass and husband Donald of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and Geraldine Holcomb of Oregon; several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bill who passed away on June 11, 1988 and two sisters, even strobe and Hazel Jensen.Funeral InformationServices for Ilene will be at 10:30 A.M. at the United Church of Christ on Thursday, March 4, 2004, with Rev. Sue Hyndman officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
