James Ashley Nichols
James Ashley Nichols, 76, formerly of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2001, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.The son of James and Erma Miller Nichols, Jim was born June 20, 1925 in Lewis, Iowa and grew up in the area. He graduated from Cumberland High School in 1942. After graduation he farmed with his father and attended Iowa State University until he was drafted into the United States Army where he served for two years. He married Margaret F. Davis on January 14, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois and attended Emmaus Bible School for one year. Jim and Margaret settled down in Cumberland where Jim farmed for six years then he moved to Exira, Iowa where he farmed for four years. In 1963 he took his family to Brazil, South America where he served as a missionary (Bible Teacher and Church Planter) for twenty-seven years. When he returned from Brazil, Jim and Margaret settled in Cumberland until they moved to Augusta, Georgia in November of 2000.Surviving are his wife Margaret of Augusta, Georgia; four sons, James H. Nichols and wife Cheryl of Orlando, Florida, Phillip D. Nichols and wife Raquel of Peotone, Illinois, Paul K. Nichols and wife Stephanie of Lincolnton, Georgia and John F. Nichols of Atlantic, Georgia; two daughters, Mary Malchuk and husband Alan of Winston Salem, North Carolina and Ruth Hannerman and husband Steve of Lincolnton, Georgia; eighteen grandchildren, Sarah Sloan and husband Stuart, Rachel Price and husband Jeremy, Daniel, Paul and Anne Nichols, Olivia and Luke Nichols, Cody Nichols, Hannah, Joshua, Bethany and Jessica Malchuk and Andrew, Matthew, Jillina, Jacob, Nathan and Benjamin Hanneman; one great-graddaughter Madeline Sloan; two sisters, Mrs. Carol Johnson of Brazil and Mrs. Miriam Langmade of Kansas City; three brothers, Kendle Nichols of Creston, Iowa, Charles Nichols of St. Louis, Missouri and Dean Nichols of Cumberland, Iowa.He was preceded in death by his parents.Funeral InformationServices for Jim will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2001, at 10:00 A.M. at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Dave Hammond officiating. Interment will be in the Reno Methodist Cemetery south of Cumberland, Iowa.
