Roger Lee Newell, 68, longtime resident of Atlantic, Iowa passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Creighton Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Roger was born to Jack T. and Hazel Van Aernam Newell on November 7, 1944 in Atlantic, Iowa. He was raised in Cass County, IA and Omaha and graduated from Central High School in Omaha in 1962. He attended Iowa State University at Ames, IA. He worked as a truck driver for Walnut Grove, farmed in Cass County, was a cab driver, and a served as a handyman. Everyone knew Roger, he was friendly and always ready for a good visit.
Roger is survived by one brother, Darwin Newell and wife, Linda of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters, Patricia Olsen of Omaha, NE, Sharon Turner Meyer and husband Ken of Omaha, NE, five nephews, Chad Olsen, Scott Olsen, Kyle Newell, Kevin Turner and Jason Turner and one niece Becky Newell Nelson.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents; Hazel and Jack Newell, brother Larry Newell, and brother-in-law Gary Olsen, and numerous aunts and uncles.
