Jack Newell

Jack Newell, 88, a resident of the Allen House in Atlantic, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2003 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.The son of Thomas and Mary Elizabeth (Huffman) Newell, he was born March 3, 1914 near Gray, Iowa. He attended rural school through the ninth grade. Jack was united in marriage to Hazel Lucille Van Aernam, on May 17, 1940, in Adair.The couple farmed in Shelby and Cass counties before moving to Omaha. In 1966 they purchased and ran the Newell Hotel Lounge in Atlantic. He retired in 1982.Jack is survived by two sons, Roger Newell, of Atlantic, Darwin Newell, and wife, Linda, of Louisville, Kentucky; two daughters, Patricia Olson and husband, Gary, of Omaha, Nebraska, Sharon Turner of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren Chad Olson, Scott Olson, Kyle Newell, Becky Newell, Kevin Turner and Jason Turner; two brothers, Joe Newell and Selmer "Tuff&" Newell, and one sister Doris Scanlon of Omaha.He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ralph Newell, Lester Newell and Bernard Newell; four sisters,Beryl Pomeroy, Lily "Toots&" Klever, Faye Stangl, and Mabel Evans.Funeral InformationServices for Jack will be held Monday, February 17, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. in the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic with Rev. Tompsie Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
