Georgia Nelson

Georgia Nelson, age 96, longtime resident of Lewis and Atlantic, Iowa, passed away February 9, 2005 at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.Born January 10, 1909, in Audubon, Iowa, Georgia was the daughter of Albert and Ida May (Weaver) Harmon. She spent her childhood years in Audubon, Iowa and moved to Lewis, Iowa in 1921. She graduated from Lewis High School in 1928, and lived in Lewis until she moved to the Atlantic Care Center in 1992. Following her marriage to Harold LeRoy Nelson on May 4, 1929, she made her home in Lewis and assisted Harold with the office work at the Lewis Lumber Yard, which he managed until he retired in 1972. Georgia was a loving wife and mother, and was very active in the Lewis Methodist Church and in later years at the United Congregational Methodist Church.Survivors include two children and their spouses, Edward and Irma Lee Nelson of El Paso, Texas and Richard and Mary Peters of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Jon Nelson of El Paso, Texas, Julie Turnbow of Richardson Texas, and Jodie Telg of Gainesville, Florida; three great grandchildren; and one sister, Nellie Sullivan of Costa Mesa, California. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son Lee Roy; two infant brothers; and a brother, Paul.A public graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M., at the Oakwood Cemetery at Lewis on Friday, February 18. The Reverend Sharon Guffey-Lewis will preside.
