Obituary for Bernice "B. J." Nelson

Bernice "B.J." Nelson, 63, of Omaha, Nebraska and formerly of Atlantic, Iowa passed away on Monday, 29, 2001 at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.The daughter of Bernard and Marjorie Elizabeth (Christensen) McMurphy, Bernice was born April 11, 1938 in the Adair, Iowa hospital. She grew up and attended grade school in the Casey area. Her family moved to Atlantic in 1950 where she was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Bernice graduated from Atlantic High School in 1955 and from the Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1958. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She worked as a surgical nurse at various hospitals in Council Bluffs, Atlantic, Omaha, Boise, Idaho, McAllen, Texas and Kansas City, Missouri. Bernice returned to the Omaha area in 1996 and most recently worked at the Infinia Care Facility in Omaha.Surviving are one sister Beverly Nelson and husband E.C. Jiggs Nelson of Atlantic; nieces and nephews, Susan Brownlee and husband Dean of Atlantic, Max Nelson and wife Ann of Kansas City, Missouri, David Nelson and friend Susie of Atlantic, Sandra Crecelius and husband Kurt of Atlantic and Bernard Nelson of West Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; great-nieces and nephews, Amy Brownlee of Council Bluffs, Scott Brownlee of Council Bluffs, Nathan Brownlee and wife Sarah of Griswold, Iowa, Adam, Lindsey and Bret Nelson of Kansas City, Missouri, Jeremy and Autumn Crecelius of Atlantic, Aaron Nelson of Des Moines, Iowa, Daniel and Jonathon Nelson of Avoca; one great-great-nephew, Joshua Brownlee of Griswold; a dear friend Wanda Harrell and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.Funeral InformationA memorial service for Bernice will be held Thursday, November 1, 2001, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic following the interment of cremains at 10:30 AM at the Atlantic Cemetery. Pastor Ron Barnett will officiate.
